Tane
Most of us know some version of the story of how Tāne and some of his siblings separated Rangi and Papatūānuku, bringing existence from Te Pō to Te Ao Mārama.
Have you thought, though, about the skills and characteristics Tāne embodied to navigate and ultimately win the support of his siblings to force the separation of Rangi and Papa? Consider how he chose to see that tiny bit of light in Te Pō in a positive way—even though he had no idea what it actually was. The courage to believe in something unknown and trust it could be a way forward. Think about the skills and relationships he must have needed to develop and nurture with his siblings to obtain their tautoko for the separation.
This lamp encourages you to look deeper into the pūrākau of Tāne and Te Ao Mārama to connect with the kura huna (hidden messages) that our tīpuna left us.
Rangi, represented by the large koru, sits at the top, with Papatūānuku at the bottom. Between them are Tāne's legs, featured as pou, with his siblings positioned between. The back of the hue has an oval shade that represents Te Pō—the realm of unlimited potential with a slight glimmer of light—and Te Ao Mārama, the enlightenment, with spiral lights encircling Te Pō.
